SAFETY

From a safety standpoint, one urban myth has spring up around hybrid electric cars which refuses to go away.  This is that police and fire department emergency workers are put into mortal danger by hybrids because they carry high voltage electrical wiring that can electrocute would be rescuers trying to aid victims in a car crash.   Although the E-Lectra-gt does carry high voltage electric batteries and wiring the reality is the threat is very remote.

The E-Lectra-gt high voltage battery pack cells are sealed and protected by their composite integral isolated and insulated enclosures.  In addition all high voltage circuits and plugs are marked and color coded and posted with warnings to advise of their presence so that police, fire rescue teams and the general public should have few difficulties understanding the situation and be able to avoid problems.  Rescue workers routinely remove the ignition key and disconnect the battery immediately upon reaching an emergency situation with conventional vehicles.  Even if the warnings on the hybrid electric car are ignored, taking these initial two steps will disable the high voltage motor controller on the E-Lectra-gt, essentially negating any threat of electrocution.  This is much less of a concern than a random spark igniting a 20 gallon tank of gasoline in a comparable situation with a conventional internal combustion engine powered automobile.

As with all new automobiles sold in the United States the E-Lectra-gt meets all federal vehicle safety requirements.  Just as with conventional vehicles the E-Lectra-gt is equipped with the same seat belts, air bags, electronic aids, restraints, and reinforcements to ensure structural integrity and occupant security and survivability.
